Adorn Your Head

So often forgotten, but so key in remembering. Next time you dash out the door in a rush consider shielding your face from harsh UV rays by adorning your head with the perfect summer hat. These two are just some ideas at different price points. If you've got the creative spark, consider picking up a basic straw hat or fedora from a craft store or even a large chain like a forever 21 and threading ribbon around the exterior. You could add flowers, pins or yarn and compliment it with your favorite summer dress. Women everywhere have the rare opportunity to snatch up designs from Eugenia Kim, a renowned milliner whose designs normally retail between 200 and 300 dollars, for rock bottom prices at Target. This particular style is $16.99 and the other colorful mixed print hat can be found at Anthropology.

Happy Hat Hunting from CovetedList!

Coveted Gator: Beccah Clark

Your new Coveted Gator has style that stands out in a crowd of monotony in everyday fashion. While Beccah admits that taking fashion risks can lead to utterly "ridiculous outfits," she also believes that you have to take risks if you don't want to mesh with the crowd around you.

Beccah embraces a punkish-feminine style and her favorite part of creating outfits is mixing harsh elements with softer ones to create that element of uniqueness. She looks for inspiration from cutting-edge designers like Alexander McQueen who turn fashion into an art form, yet she loves the classics that every girl adores by Marc Jacobs. Her everyday shopping stops include Zara, Urban Outfitters, and Topshop (online).

The Big Apple is where Beccah chose to spend her spring break away from UF - and she has had plenty of fashion exposure on her trip! "I'm here right now and you can walk down the street and never see the same outfit twice."

While she may not be sporting a bikini in NYC, Beccah describes her ideal spring break outfit as a classic solid bikini paired with a patterned coverup and gold strappy sandals. Tanning may not be in the picture, but shopping is. Beccah expressed her excitement in the new spring trends and is hunting for tiered florals, pastel colors and denim dresses as she searches the city.

Kara hopes to worok for a major company like Elle Magazine of People's Revolution one day, and currently has a Fendi Spy bag as her #1 wish list item!

Check out this fashionable Coveted Gator!

Expecting Rain?

Don't let a little rain get you down on Spring Break 2010! Yes, you may have picked out the perfect swimsuit, but who says you can't rock it in a downpour? As long as you accessorize with cheerful rain-boots, your wardrobe will be complete. If sunshine and tanning were what you had in mind at least you can still keep your style in check with unique rain-boots. You can even find them at Target in bright colors and patterns for a steal! Unless that is, you prefer to make an investment for spring breaks to come with the flashy Coach boots.

So while a tan does seem to make clothes just instantly look better on you, if the option doesn't exist for you over break, just rock some rain-boots with edge instead!

CovetedGators: Addison Culler

Addison Culler is a second year PR major at UF. She was born and raised in North Palm Beach, FL. She began modeling at a fairly young age and would like to continue modeling after college. She can been seen walking Gainesville Fashion Week this spring!

She is heavily involved in SGP here on campus, supporting her love of music and entertainment, as well as a part of Ad Society and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Get to know this CovetedGator:

I always love shopping at the boutiques in Little Five Points in Atlanta, GA.

A couple of my favorite designers are Marc by Marc Jacobs, Emilio Pucci and Burberry Prorsum.

I absolutely love CovetedList. It is a great concept. Now I can have all of my friends join CovetedList and be able to show them what I'd love to buy without having to send links within an e-mail. Without a doubt I will be on the site daily.

My biggest shopping difficulty is deciding if I like something enough to buy it. I try to purchase things I am certain I will wear. Not getting it and waiting a day or two helps.

I online shop daily. But, I don't order much online but I like knowing what is new and it's great not being limited with the number of available stores.

My favorite trend:
I have always been obsessed with menswear. Throwing on a blazer or tie with an outfit will never be a mistake. I also love bright patterns on shorts or dresses.

What I'm looking forward to this season:
Dresses, skirts, shorts, swimwear! I adore spring fashion and cannot wait for Mother Nature to realize it's time for warmer weather.

My go-to piece:
A silk scarf or Juicy Couture knee high socks.

My style is most importantly original, but also confident, flirty, preppy and fun. I wear what I feel most comfortable wearing, based on my personality and obsessions. I never purchase something because it is in but whether or not I like feel comfortable in it. I like to give each outfit a little punch so I don't blend in. Wearing what feels right lets me shine, so I wear the clothes instead of the clothes wearing me.

My aspirations are to work for a fashion brand/company or a PR Firm. This is after I take a few years off to pursue modeling.

My Number one Wish List Item:
Diane von Furstenberg Harem Cover Up Pants in leopard print

Spring Break Attire

Spring Break is almost here Gator Girls! :)

Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us no matter where in the world we go, but I'm sure a lot of us are looking forward to flowy florals and cute bathing suits.

What are you looking forward to wearing most this Spring Break? We want to know! :)

Here are a few of our wish list items which can all be found at Victoria's Secret:
Aviators for those tanning days, great lacey coverups and cute floral sandals for walking around the pool, and swimsuits with fun details and great racerback styles.

Makes me want to pack my bags and head out the door right now!

Are you going to Boot Camp?

With the inspiring military trend being shown up and down numerous runways, are you thinking about how to fit it into your wardrobe?

You don't have to deck out in camo, or throw away your feminine side-it's easy to combine the best of both words, as much or as little as you want to emphasize it!

What to look for: big brass button accents, rich wool fabrics in hunter greens, navy blues, and rich creams, jackets, boots, and structured trousers and dresses. To see how to add delicate accents with military structure, look at the picture on the bottom.

Battle of the Black and White

Fall collections were out in full force at New York's fashion week at Bryant Park. Designers art and models' signature walks graced the runway of the venue for the last time, as next years fashion week will be moved to the Lincoln Center. Designers bid adieu to Bryant Park with their own spin on the ever-classic black and white trend for fall. Most designers did showcase bold hues like blues and greens as accents as well as designing entire collections in deep "fall" colors. Those who did display head-to-toe black and white looks proved that they can be worn in different ways. Tailor the trend to your own style by browsing through collections by Proenza Schouler and Marchesca. The former uses edgy fabrics and hard lines to create a gothic gone urban look, while the latter creates structure and form in frilly dresses.

Tell us which look you prefer and look into designers utilizing black and white in their own way!

Valentine's Day Fashion

Is it a faux-pas to wear reds or pinks on Valentine's Day? I don't think so! Today gives you an excuse to get festive and wear rich, decadent color. It doesn't have to be boring and it doesn't have to be cliche-with tons of hearts and sparkles. Simple and stylish with a touch of rose, is all that is really needed. Structured or flowy. Wild or Simple. However you want to do it, we are sure you can pull it off. And if you don't want it to be an overload of color, try using accents in your accessories. A cute clutch, hot red high heels, or simple breathtaking jewelry could be your way to celebrate your wardrobe on Valentine's Day.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

CovetedList may not be psychic, but it’s a Web site that knows what its users want to wear.

The personalized shopping Web site is in its start-up phase, and the University of Florida has the opportunity to beat other schools in a registration competition.
CovetedList is a personal styling network and shopping platform that customizes clothing selections based on your body, personal style and budget, according to the network’s marketing manager, Chelsea Barber.

CovetedList teams at UF, the University of Georgia, Florida State University and the University of Tennessee are competing to get the most registrations in one month, she said.
Members use a special code to register for UF with CovetedList. To qualify as a winning school, universities must surpass 1,000 registrations. The final competition is then between the qualified schools.

UF CovetedList is hosting a closet swap on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the launching of the network and raise interest among students. The event will be held at the Alpha Delta Pi sorority house, 831 W. Panhellenic Dr.

Attendees are urged to trade unused clothing with others. Event proceeds benefit Children’s Miracle Network, and any unclaimed clothes will be donated to Haiti. Tickets can be purchased in advanced for $4. They are $5 at the door.

CovetedList is supported by a variety of retailers, including BCBG, Bloomingdales, Banana Republic, The Gap, Igigi, Gaiam, Northface, Macy’s, Old Navy, Piperlime, Saks Fifth Avenue,, Fashion Chateau and Couture Candy.

Each retailer offers discounts and promotional codes through CovetedList that match the user’s store preference, and new businesses are joining every day, according to Barber.
The platform supports more than 450 combinations of body types, attributes and styles. Barber said this variability means that no one should ever get the same styling results.

Users sign up for the network by entering their information and UF’s registration code. They are then free to “covet,” create and recommend outfits to other users. A “coveted” item is placed in the member’s online closet. There is no membership fee, according to Barber.
Because the network is in the Alpha phase, a limited number of users can peruse the Web site. These members have the privilege to make suggestions and take satisfaction surveys, Barber said.

Additional members become active once CovetedList is in the Beta phase.
CovetedList Connoisseur Elizabeth Hebeler, 20, is a member of the UF marketing team for the Web site. She believes the downfall of most online shopping is that it isn’t personalized, and customers risk buying clothing that doesn’t fit their body type or personal style.
Hebeler, a public relations major, said CovetedList solves this problem by making outfits, compiling closets and personalizing every step of the process.

Kasi Martin, another UF CovetedList marketing representative, thinks the network has the opportunity to become the main site for online shopping. Though it is geared towards females, she said CovetedList could cater to males as well.

UF CovetedList plans to have more events in the future, including a fashion show and a styling workshop.

To register for the online shopping network, visit UF’s code is CLCUF.

New Spring Trend: Exposed?

The Spring Collections of many
designers launched not too long ago and there are many interesting trends that hit the runway and may or may not hit our closets. What do you think of this trend?
Designers ranging from Christian Dior to Fendi to Marc Jacobs to Dolce&Gabbana all showcase a different spin on the growing trend of exposed brassieres. Will you wear it? And if so, how?
Some of the designers just threw a blazer and left it open, while others, like the picture to the left, threw a sheer fabric on top. Others just used a hint of lingerie in their pieces. How much is too much? Let us know what you think!

Golden Globes: What We Learned

Hollywood isn't like the runway. There isn't a generic body type for the Red Carpet. When watching the Golden Globes and listening to the Fashion Police after, we can all learn something from the way these celebrities dressed. Various body types were shown the other night and it's easy to find the best and worst dressed lists. Take tips from the comments and from your own perspective by looking at the pictures of these powerful, classy, and beautiful women. One of our favorites was Penelope Cruz. She knows how to show off her figure and turn a black dress into something that resonates with you. Sign up for CovetedList today and use the code CLCUF to find out what works specifically for your body so you never end up on a Worst Dressed List! :)

Keep Warm in Style!

As we experience the coldest temperatures ever here in Gainesville, make sure you don't sacrifice your style or your warmth! Great jackets come in all kinds of colors and shapes, so there are no excuses! :) Neutral colored jackets, like the one pictured, are great because they'll go with almost anything! Pair with basic jeans or metallic tights and you are set for a great outfit. Black doesn't always have to be boring either; this DKNY jacket has a great ruffle effect. Look for small accents such as this to distinguish yourself. A great jacket that is flattering for any figure includes a belt or tie accentuating your waist, so don't worry about losing your great shape in a 'boxy' jacket either! Keep warm! Stay stylish! :)
And, Bloomingdales is having a great sale on all their coats right now, so you should definitely check it out! (This one is 20% off!)
